支持巴勒斯坦的社運份子，開始將以色列改稱為「黎凡特的猶太國家以色列」(Jewish State of Israel in the Levant)，簡稱 JSIL，諷刺性的對比鄰近蓋達組織分裂出的團體 ISIS。ISIS 殘暴的席捲了敘利亞和伊拉克部分地區，所到之處的居民，尤其弱勢民眾，無不遭受踐踏。
這是為了對照以色列總理班傑明．納坦雅胡在聯合國的演講，他被稱作 JSIL 的「最高領袖」。這是在達成停火協議近一個月後，此前是長達五十天的攻擊，至少兩千一百卅七巴勒斯坦人死亡，其中大部分是平民，包括五百七十七名兒童，至少一萬八百七十人受傷。這次攻擊對加薩的經濟造成明顯可見的影響，平民的設施也少有倖免：一萬八千棟房屋被毀，超過一百所學校，五十個健康中心和十七所醫院受損，廿所被毀壞。
改名運動由巴勒斯坦的支持者發起，他們用主流媒體描述 ISIS 的語言來描述以色列政府的政策。例如獨立記者 Rania Khalek 警告西方 JSIL 的威脅：
