Born in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico to a US-Latinx-Chinese family and raised in several regions of the world, including China, Hong Kong, the Mainland US, and Puerto Rico.

Johnny Nie grew up speaking English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Growing up on the intersection between his white European, African, Hispanic Latinx, and Chinese heritage, he has grown to be a very passionate about his cultural heritage but also believes in growing beyond the expectations and stereotypes attributed to his racial background by contributing his translation and interpretation skills to bridge the gaps in understanding between the different cultures that he grew up in and by also empowering other members of society who are often neglected or left unseen.
